Aesthetics, the way I see it.

Thank you for putting so much work into this blog and helping me transition! I am a fairly new aesthetician and have only been at my job for a little over a month. I've been struggling to find my place, because where I work I've been mistreated and disrespected. I've been told it's because I am new and it just makes it really hard to go to work everyday when my coworkers are disrespectful and a manager who makes me feel dumb in front of myclients. I'm going to tough it out, thanks to your blog!

Wow! Thank you! It is a tough industry, and I’m not going to lie, there are times when I don’t want to go to work either. I am so glad that my blog has helped you! It is very encouraging for me to know that you are reading!

However, you don’t have to tough it out. There are places that will respect you as a professional, no matter how new you are. If at anytime you start to feel uncomfortable, please do hesitate to get out of that situation. For New Estheticians it is really hard for us to come to this decision, especially when it is so hard for us to find a job already.

Just remember, you went to school and took your test to be a professional. Nothing, is worth you sacrificing your license. To get the respect you deserve, you must trust and respect yourself as a professional.

In the mean time, keep your head up! All your co workers and your boss were newbies once, too. You will come into your own, and you will show them that you are just as good as they are. For me, remembering that I can always improve, every service can always be better, and that I am never going to be done learning, is what keep me humble and my clients happy.

I wish you large amounts of luck on your endeavors, and please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. If it is something you don’t want the world to see you can always send me fan mail!

Thank you so much for reading! :)

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!

Now that I realize that I cannot actually remove this blog from Tumblr because it is the one I started my account with, I have actually decided what I will do with this blog.

I want to use this space to offer advice to other professionals who might be in situations they are unsure of.

I cannot guarantee I will be able to help all cases, in which I will open it up to some of my other followers, and hopefully they will be kind enough to help.

This decision came on in light of some recent events that have occurred, that I am not really pleased about, and unfortunately there are always jerks out there that are trying to take advantage of newbies to our business. I don’t want you to feel like you are stuck or you cannot do anything, and I want to help you to the best of my ability.

I may not have been int he industry long, but I have experienced enough hardship to learn from my mishaps.

So, my ask box is open to all who have questions! Ask away my dears!

Just a reminder....

Tomorrow is April 22nd, and if anyone has seen the post I made a little while ago, or cares (and I hope you do), I will be blacking out my blog tomorrow.

I will not be posting or anything of the sort in protest of CISPA. I recommend you do the same, but it is not my decision to make for you.

here is the link to a website about the CISPA black out. You can find the code to blackout your blog there too.

Okay my beautiful Arizona pals, I need your help

icebomb:

I decided that I’m quitting this job, and since apparently getting another aesthetician job is impossible for me, I’m going to be aiming to get a job in the stagehand union in the wardrobe department. I’m already a part of the union as a standby (which provides occasional work), but by getting into wardrobe, that could mean a lead into theatrical and special effects makeup.
Now here’s my problem: I want to send the union member manager a portfolio of my work. But all the work I’ve ever done has been a bunch of selfies, and I don’t feel like that’s very professional looking, so I want to add pictures of work on other people.

THIS IS WHERE YOU ALL COME IN: I need volunteers. But not just ‘come over and let me do makeup on your face.’ I need mock clients who want me to build them a character. So here’s what I would like you to do:
-design a character you would like me to make you into, and submit the design to me
-i will provide the makeup application, wig styling, and costume making, but I CAN’T PAY FOR IT ALL, being broke and whatnot. So if you could provide the wig for me to style (we can see if I have one that will work), as well as the materials for the costume, then we’re golden. THIS IS NOT A REQUIRED PART. This is only if you want to add a costume as well. The max I’d ask you to spend on materials is like, $20. If you only want a fancy makeup done, that’s fine.
-if you can’t think of anything by yourself, we can get together and brainstorm.
-I would prefer not to do homestuck characters. Or characters that already exist, for that matter. This isn’t ‘let me make u a free cosplay’ charity. This is me trying to get my life going, and showing the world my skills.
-you need to live in Arizona. I want to be able to get together with you a few times so we can make sure everything is going smoothly.
-when its all done, will get together and do a photoshoot!!

If any friends with decent cameras would be willing to donate their time to help me take photos, that’d be amazing. Please contact me if so.

If you are interested, please, PLEASE contact me. I want to get 10 profiles done by the end of this month, which is a lot of work I know, but I’m sick and tired of living my life like I am.
Reblog to spread the word!! I’ll be taking 15 at max, so if you want to do this, respond as soon as you can! Thanks guys.

Anyone is Arizona? Help out my dear friend and colleague! She is really great at what she does!

Lets have a discussion: Body waxing

I have been self employed for about three months now, and there has been something nagging at the back of my mind.

Redness after waxing.

When my clients come to me, their first warning is: “I get really red.” Then I wax them, and their next response is: “Wow! I am hardly red at all! When I go to those other places, I get so red and itchy after they wax me!”

I must warn you now, I am about to go on a rant about something I feel should be common sense for any esthetician, beautician, or waxing specialist.

I am going to call my competition, “Those other places.” If you are in the industry, you know what that means, at least I am counting on the fact that you do.

My clients ask me why they are not red after I have waxed them, and there are a variety of answers.

  • Their previous wax job was done incorrectly, and unprofessionally.
  • They had an allergic reaction to the wax and pre/post care products used
  • The wax was too hot and they received a low level burn

The three listed above are the most common, and the last one it usually the case at “Those other places.”

Ladies, and gentlemen, our wax pots DO NOT need to be turned all the way up in order to successfully melt the wax. In fact, many manufactures have developed their wax to melt at body temperature so that your services are safer and more comfortable.

I do understand that there are some people with a very sensitive skin type, and no matter what you do they will always be red. However, there is a difference on their skin if they ar red from the trauma of having hair ripped out or they are red and swollen from the heat of the wax.

If your clients skin is so red it is practically glowing, YOU NEED TO TURN DOWN YOUR WAX POT! If they still have this reaction after doing so, you need to invest in a different wax for them because they might be having a mild allergic reaction. If this continues, take a look at your techniques and consider that you might be doing something incorrectly.

I have spent the majority of my time at work trying to convince people who have been maimed by bad wax job to come back, because it really isn’t supposed to hurt the way they believe it does.

We are professionals who were taught to take care of the skin, and to teach our clients how to take care of their skin. It is our responsibility to ensure that they services we provide are the best quality that we can provide.

Beauty is pain, but it doesn’t have to be excruciating pain.

Hey everyone! if you are in my local area, I would really like it if you could pass this along. I am trying to start my business and make a living! it starts with wildly discounting my services!

I have a deal on Weekly Plus. I am a licensed esthetician, and I just need to get this business off the ground so my family and I can start saving money for a town house we plan to buy in the next year.

Please help me out Tumblr by passing this along. You don’t have to buy it, but it would be nice!

And who knows, maybe I’ll offer a special discount for Tumblr peoples only. :) (after the voucher is used of course)

I have a deal on Weekly Plus again! Please check it out and pass it along to all your friends who might be in my local area! Thank you very much!

I have some news...

tandersonlma:

I have been thinking about this for a very long time, and I have to say that it is not an easy decision for me to make.

As many of you know, I have finally become gainfully employed, unfortunately, being self employed is much harder and more strenuous that I had thought. I have found that i ultimately have no time for this portion of my blog anymore. However, it is not like I was really contributing to this blog very much as it was. I am just not researching as much as I had hoped. Aside from the webinars I listen in on from time to time, I have not done much.

So, as I embark on my journey to be sucessfully self employed, I must say good by to “Aesthetics: The Way I See It.”  It has been fun, and while I have plenty of opinions on my industry, I cannot voice them all as they become just a tad too public. As many of you in this industry know, we make the most money when we keep our mouth shut.

I will, be keeping my personal and my crocheting blog. So please feel free to follow either of those! I do believe they are linked on my home page.

Thank you all who have been so wonderful to follow me, and to those who have contributed to my ideas and discussions. I wish you all the best of luck in your careers! Hopefully, I will see some of you on my other blogs!

You have till Friday, then I will be deleting this blog. Thank you!
